How do you fix a 1998 Chrysler town and country door that opens on its own?

1. Check the door latch. The door latch is a mechanical device that holds the door closed. If the door latch is damaged, it may not be able to hold the door closed properly.

2. Inspect the door striker. The door striker is a metal plate that the door latch engages with to hold the door closed. If the door striker is damaged or misaligned, it may not be able to hold the door closed properly.

3. Check the door hinge. If the door hinge is damaged, it may not be able to support the weight of the door properly, which could cause the door to sag. It also may cause the door not to close properly.

4.Make sure the child lock is not activated. There is a lock switch located at the top of the door near the lock and unlock knob. If the lock switch is in the "locked" position, the inside handle will not be able to open the door.

5. Clean and lubricate the door mechanisms. Dirt, debris, and rust can build up on the door mechanisms, making them difficult to operate. Cleaning and lubricating the door mechanisms can help to fix a door that opens on its own.

6. Replace the door latch. If the latch is damaged, it should be replaced.

You will need the following tools:

* Phillips head screwdriver

* Flat head screwdriver

* New door latch

* Torx bit set

Instructions:

1. Open the door and remove the two visible Phillips screws from the edge of the door.

2. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry up the plastic trim on the inside of the door.

3. Locate the door latch and remove the two Torx screws that hold it in place.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the door latch.

5. Remove the old door latch and install the new door latch.

6. Connect the electrical connector to the door latch.

7. Secure the door latch with the two Torx screws.

8. Replace the plastic trim and the Phillips head screws.

This should fix the problem. If not, you may need to take the car to a mechanic for further inspection.
