Tools and Materials Needed:
- New oil (refer to your lawnmower manual for the recommended type and amount)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags/Towels
Step 1: Prepare the Lawnmower
- Park the lawnmower on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.
- Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the engine from accidentally starting while you work.
Step 2: Locate the Oil Drain Plug
- Find the oil drain plug on the bottom of the lawnmower deck.
- It is usually located near the bottom of the engine.
Step 3: Place the Oil Drain Pan
- Position the oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug to catch the old oil.
- Make sure the pan is large enough to hold the amount of oil that will drain.
Step 4: Drain the Old Oil
- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug.
- Be careful, as the oil may be hot.
- Allow all of the old oil to drain into the pan.
Step 5: Replace the Oil Drain Plug
- Once the oil has completely drained, replace the oil drain plug.
- Tighten the plug securely with the wrench.
Step 6: Add New Oil
- Remove the oil fill cap or dipstick (depending on your lawnmower model).
- Use the funnel to add the recommended amount of new oil to the engine.
Step 7: Check the Oil Level
- Replace the oil fill cap or dipstick and start the engine for a few seconds.
- Turn it off and wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
Step 8: Clean Up
- Wipe up any spilled oil with a rag or towel.
- Properly dispose of the old oil and oil filter according to local regulations.
