Tools and Materials Needed:
- Jack
- Jack stands
- Lug wrench
- Spare tire
- Wheel chocks
Instructions:
Step 1: Park the car in a safe location and engage the parking brake.
Step 2: Loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire.
- Do not remove the lug nuts completely. Just loosen them enough so that you can remove them by hand later.
Step 3: Place the jack under the car near the flat tire.
- Make sure that the jack is stable and will not slip.
- Raise the car with the jack until the flat tire is off the ground.
Step 4: Remove the lug nuts and take off the flat tire.
Step 5: Place the spare tire on the lug bolts and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
- Do not tighten the lug nuts all the way at this point.
Step 6: Lower the car until the spare tire is on the ground.
- Be careful not to drop the car.
Step 7: Tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern, tightening each lug nut a little bit at a time until they are snug.
Step 8: Lower the jack and remove it from under the car.
Step 9: Put away the tools and spare tire.
_You should now be able to drive your car safely to a tire shop or auto repair shop to have the flat tire repaired or replaced._

* If you are changing the tire on a vehicle with a flat tire sensor, you will need to reset the sensor after you have installed the new tire.
* The tire sensor reset button is usually located in the trunk of the car.
