Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Wait 10-15 minutes for the capacitors in the electronic control module (ECM) to discharge.
Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
Press and hold the "Trip" or "Reset" button on the instrument panel.
While holding the button, turn the ignition key to the "START" position and hold it for 5-10 seconds.
Release the ignition key and the "Trip" or "Reset" button.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
The check engine light should now be reset.
If the check engine light comes back on after resetting it, it means that there is still a problem with the engine or emissions system. You will need to have the vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic to identify and repair the problem.
