Tools Needed:
- Brake adjustment tool
- 10 mm socket wrench
1. Prepare the ATV. Park the ATV on a level surface, with the engine turned off. Engage the parking brake to keep the ATV from rolling.
2. Locate the brake adjustment tool. The brake adjustment tool is located in the ATV's tool kit. It is a small, L-shaped tool with a blunt tip.
3. Locate the brake adjuster. The brake adjuster is located on the back of the rear brake caliper. It is a small, round knob with a slotted head.
4. Insert the brake adjustment tool. Insert the brake adjustment tool into the slotted head of the brake adjuster. Turn the tool counterclockwise until you feel resistance.
5. Back off the brake adjustment tool. Once you feel resistance, back off the brake adjustment tool 1/4 turn. This will release the tension on the brake cable.
6. Check the brake pedal. Apply the brake pedal. It should feel firm and stop the ATV effectively. If it does not, repeat steps 4-6 until the desired brake performance is achieved.
Note: Be sure not to overtighten the brake adjuster, as this can cause the brakes to drag.
