1. Park your Fourtrax on a flat surface.
2. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
3. Locate the chain adjuster bolts on the rear axle carrier.
4. Loosen the chain adjuster locknuts on both sides of the axle carrier.
5. Use a wrench to turn the chain adjuster bolts clockwise to tighten the chain or counterclockwise to loosen it.
6. Adjust the chain so that it can be moved up and down about 1/2 inch (13mm) between the front and rear sprockets.
7. Recheck the chain tension after tightening the chain adjuster locknuts.
8. Test the chain adjustment by rolling the Fourtrax back and forth a few feet.
