-17 mm socket and wrench
-Oil filter wrench
-Oil filter (Harley-Davidson part number 63731-89A)
-New oil drain plug gasket
-Oil pan with at least 3-quart capacity
-New oil (2 quarts of 20W-50 motor oil)
-Funnel
-Shop towels
Instructions:
1. Warm up your bike and then turn it off.
2. Put on your safety gear.
3. Get your bike ready to access the bottom part. If your bike has saddlebags, you may need to remove them. You may also need to take off the battery box cover and side cover.
4. Locate the oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine.
5. Place an oil pan under the oil drain plug.
6. Use the 17 mm socket and wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug.
7. Allow the old oil to drain completely.
8. Inspect the old oil for any metal shavings or other debris. If you find any, you may need to take your bike to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
9. Replace the oil drain plug gasket and tighten the oil drain plug.
10. Locate the oil filter. It is usually near the top of the engine.
11. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter.
12. Apply a thin film of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
13. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not over tighten.
14. Add new oil using a funnel. Add 2 quarts of oil.
15. Check the oil level using the oil dipstick. Add oil if needed to bring the oil level to the full mark.
16. Start your bike and let it run for a few minutes.
17. Turn off your bike and check for any leaks. If you see any leaks, troubleshoot them and fix them.
18. Replace any parts you removed, and put your bike back together.
