How do you change your Honda 250R oil?

To replace your Honda 250R oil, follow these steps:

Materials Needed:

- New Oil (SAE 10W-40)

- Oil filter (Honda 15410-MEB-013 or Equivalent)

- Oil Filter Wrench (If Applicable)

- Oil Drain Pan

- Funnel

- Wrench (10 mm)

- Safety Goggles

- Rags

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Warm-Up the Engine:

- Run your Honda 250R for a few minutes to warm up the oil and make it easier to drain.

2. Prepare the Area:

- Make sure you have adequate lighting and ventilation in your workspace.

3. Locate the Oil Drain Bolt:

- Position an oil drain pan under the engine, directly beneath the oil drain bolt.

- There are two oil drain bolts—one on the left and one on the right side of the engine case.

- Start with the left-sided drain bolt. If doing an oil change after a full rebuild or other repair, do the right side first to remove more oil.

- The left side drain bolt is accessed by removing the lower right skid plate bolt at the bottom center and unzipping the large bolt near the clutch release shaft at the top. This will allow you to pull away a small triangular aluminum cover exposing the bolt.

4. Remove the Oil Drain Bolt (Left Side):

- Use the wrench to loosen the left-side oil drain bolt. Be cautious as the oil may be hot.

- Allow the oil to drain completely into the oil drain pan.

5. Replace the Oil Drain Bolt (Left Side):

- Once the oil has drained, clean and reinstall the oil drain bolt with the wrench. Make sure the bolt is tight.

6. Remove the Oil Filter:

- Locate the oil filter. On the TRX250R, it is on the left side of the engine, near the oil drain plug.

- Use the oil filter wrench (if needed) to loosen and remove the oil filter.

- Be prepared for a small amount of oil to spill out.

7. Apply a Thin Coat of New Oil to the Oil Filter Gasket:

- Before installing the new oil filter, apply a thin layer of new oil to its gasket.

8. Screw in the New Oil Filter:

- Hand-tighten the new oil filter until it contacts the gasket sealing surface.

- Do not over-tighten the filter.

9. Remove the Right-Side Oil Drain Plug:

- Remove the right-sided drain plug in the same manner as you did with the left side, following steps 3-5 above.

10. Replace the Oil Filter Cap (Right Side):

- Reinstall the right-sided oil filter plug ensuring it is tightened securely.

11. Add New Oil:

- Check your Honda 250R owner's manual to determine the correct amount of oil required.

- Unscrew the oil filler cap at the top of the engine.

- Use a funnel to add the specified amount of new oil.

- Replace and tighten the oil filler cap.

12. Start the Engine:

- Start your Honda 250R and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine and check for any leaks.

13. Check the Oil Level:

- Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle down.

- Use the dipstick to check the oil level.

- The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick.

14. Recycle the Old Oil:

- Dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly. Consult local regulations for proper disposal methods.

By following these steps, you can safely and efficiently change the oil on your Honda 250R. Remember to refer to your Honda 250R owner's manual for specific details related to your model.
