- Loosen the cylinder head bolts in a criss-cross pattern and remove them.
- Lift the cylinder head cover off the cylinder head.
-Remove the spark plug wire.
2. Remove the camshaft.
- Remove the camshaft bearing caps and lift out the camshaft.
- Place a shop rag in the camshaft journal to prevent the camshaft from falling into the engine block.
3. Remove the valve springs.
- Use a valve spring compressor to compress the valve spring and remove the keepers.
- Lift out the valve spring and retainer.
- Repeat this step for all of the valves.
4. Remove the old valve seals.
- Use a seal remover or a flat-head screwdriver to pry the old valve seals out of the cylinder head.
5. Install the new valve seals.
- Dip the new valve seals in oil and install them in the cylinder head by hand.
- Use a valve spring compressor to compress the valve spring and install the keepers.
- Repeat this step for all of the valves.
6. Install the camshaft and cylinder head cover.
- Put a few drops of oil in the camshaft journals to lubricate them.
- Install the camshaft and tighten the camshaft bearing caps.
- Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the cylinder head bolts in a criss-cross pattern.
-Reattach the spark plug wire.
7. Adjust the valve clearances.
- Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
- Use a feeler gauge to measure the valve clearances between the valve stem and the cam lobe.
- If the valve clearances are not within specifications, adjust them by turning the adjusting screw on the rocker arm.
8. Retighten the cylinder head bolts.
- After the engine has cooled down, recheck the torque on the cylinder head bolts and tighten them if necessary.
