Tools Needed:

- Wrench

- Oil Drain pan

- New Oil Filter

- Funnels

- New oil (type as recommended in owner's manual)

- Oil Filter Wrench

- Rags

- Safety Glasses

Instructions

Note: Always allow your bike to fully cool before performing any maintenance procedure.

1. Prepare your bike: Place your bike on the center stand or use a motorcycle jack to raise the rear wheel off the ground. Make sure the bike is stable.

2. Locate the oil drain plug: The oil drain plug is typically located on the bottom of the engine. It is usually a 17mm bolt. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug.

3. Drain the old oil: Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Allow the old oil to drain completely into the pan.

4. Replace the oil drain plug: Once the oil has drained completely, replace the oil drain plug. Tighten the plug securely.

5. Locate the oil filter: The oil filter is typically located near the top of the engine. It is usually a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.

6. Remove the oil filter: Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil. Remove the oil filter and discard it.

7. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter: This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.

8. Screw on the new oil filter: Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.

9. Add new oil to the engine: Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. The amount of oil you need to add will vary depending on your bike's model. Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended oil capacity.

10. Check the oil level: Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

11. Start the bike and let it run for a few minutes: This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.

12. Check for leaks: Look under the bike for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.

That's it! You have now successfully changed the oil on your 1996 Road King.
