Where is the oil plug on a 1996 harley road king?

Below are the steps on how to change the oil on a 1996 Harley-Davidson Road King:

1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:

- New oil filter (Harley-Davidson Part Number 63731-98)

- New O-ring for the oil filter (Harley-Davidson Part Number 25416-99C)

- Oil drain pan

- Funnel

- Wrench

- Rags

2. Prepare the motorcycle:

- Warm up the engine for a few minutes to thin the oil and make it easier to drain.

- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down slightly.

- Place the oil drain pan under the motorcycle, directly beneath the oil drain plug.

3. Locate the oil drain plug:

- The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine, on the left side. It is a 17mm bolt.

4. Remove the oil drain plug:

- Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the oil drain pan.

- Allow all of the oil to drain out (approximately 3.7 quarts).

5. Replace the oil drain plug:

- Once all of the oil has drained out, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely with the wrench.

6. Locate the oil filter:

- The oil filter is located on the right side of the engine, near the top. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.

7. Remove the oil filter:

- Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter and remove it from the engine.

- Discard the old oil filter.

8. Install the new oil filter:

- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket surface of the new oil filter.

- Screw the new oil filter onto the engine until it is snug.

- Do not over-tighten the oil filter.

9. Add new oil to the engine:

- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.

- Add approximately 3.7 quarts of new oil.

10. Check the oil level:

- Use the dipstick to check the oil level.

- The oil level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.

11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes:

- This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine and help to ensure that there are no leaks.

12. Check for leaks:

- Inspect the motorcycle for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.

NOTE: Be sure to properly dispose of the old oil and oil filter in accordance with local regulations.
