1. A flat-head screwdriver
2. A pair of pliers
3. A C-clamp
4. A block of wood
Instructions:
1. Park the Passat on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, but do not remove them.
3. Jack up the rear of the Passat until the rear wheels are off the ground.
4. Remove the lug nuts and wheels.
5. Locate the rear caliper, which is located on the back of the wheel hub.
6. Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the dust cover from the caliper.
7. Use the pliers to remove the cotter pin from the caliper slide pin.
8. Use the C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper. Be sure to place a block of wood between the caliper piston and the C-clamp to protect the piston.
9. Once the piston is fully compressed, reinstall the cotter pin and the dust cover.
10. Repeat steps 5-9 on the other side of the Passat.
11. Lower the Passat and reinstall the wheels.
12. Tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specification.
