How do you change the starter in a 1997 nissan ultima?

Tools and materials needed:

- Replacement starter motor

- Socket wrench set

- Wrench set

- Screwdriver

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Procedure

1. Disconnect the battery. This is necessary to prevent electrical shock and damage to the starter. To do this, loosen the negative terminal nut with a wrench and remove the cable from the terminal.

2. Remove the air filter housing. This will give you access to the starter. The air filter housing is located on the passenger side of the engine bay. To remove it, loosen the two bolts that hold it in place and lift it up and out.

3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter. There are two electrical connectors that connect to the starter. To disconnect them, press the release tabs on the connectors and pull them apart.

4. Remove the starter bolts. There are two bolts that hold the starter in place. To remove them, use a socket wrench.

5. Remove the starter. Once the bolts are removed, you can remove the starter from the engine bay. To do this, pull it straight out towards the front of the vehicle.

6. Install the new starter. Insert the new starter into the engine bay and align it with the mounting holes. Then, insert the starter bolts and tighten them with a socket wrench.

7. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the starter.

8. Reinstall the air filter housing.

9. Reconnect the battery.

10. Test the starter. To do this, turn the key in the ignition to the "Start" position. The starter should engage and start the engine.
