TDC Marks
1. Remove the cylinder head cover. Remove the front cover. Align the punch marks on the No. 1 camshaft sprocket with the notch in the center housing. Align the punch marks on the injection pump sprocket with the mark on the cylinder block. The front crankcase cover also has a timing mark that will align with mark on the crankshaft sprocket when number one piston is at TDC of compression stroke.
Timing Belt Replacement
1. Loosen the alternator, remove the drive belts, remove the crankshaft pulley and remove the tensioner pulley.
2. Remove the idler pulley from the cylinder head.
3. Remove the camshaft drive sprocket bolts and remove the camshaft drive sprockets.
4. Remove the timing belt.
To install:
1. Install the timing belt.
- Check the timing mark alignment of crankshaft sprocket with timing mark on front cover.
2. Install the idler pulley to the cylinder head.
3. Install the camshaft sprockets and timing belt tensioner.
- Turn crankshaft clockwise so punch mark on injection pump sprocket aligns with mark on cylinder block.
4. Align punch marks on No. 1 camshaft sprocket with notch in center housing.
5. With hand, apply tension to the timing belt between injection pump and camshaft sprockets.
6. Install the timing belt tensioner bolt and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
- Turn crankshaft 2 full revolutions and re-check punch mark alignments of crankshaft with front cover timing pointer and camshaft sprockets with their respective marks.
7. Install the front cover.
- Install new O-ring and seal to front oil seal cover before installing.
8. Install the drive belts and tighten the alternator.
