1. Gather the necessary tools and parts:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- New trunk lock mechanism (if necessary)
- Spring (if necessary)
2. Open the trunk:
- Use the key to unlock the trunk.
- If the key does not work, you may need to use a slim jim or other tool to pry open the trunk.
3. Locate the trunk lock:
- The trunk lock is located on the inside of the trunk lid, near the center.
4. Remove the trunk lock cover:
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the trunk lock cover in place.
- Once the screws are removed, pry the cover off with a flathead screwdriver.
5. Inspect the trunk lock:
- Inspect the trunk lock for any damage or broken parts.
- If the spring is broken or detached, you will need to replace it.
6. Replace the spring (if necessary):
- If the spring is broken, use a flathead screwdriver to pry the old spring out of its housing.
- Insert the new spring into the housing and make sure it is seated properly.
7. Reinstall the trunk lock cover:
- Snap the trunk lock cover back into place.
- Secure the cover with the screws you removed earlier.
8. Test the trunk lock:
- Close the trunk and try to lock it with the key.
- The trunk should lock and unlock properly.
If the trunk still does not lock or unlock properly, you may need to replace the entire trunk lock mechanism. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the trunk lid liner.
3. Locate the trunk lock mechanism.
4. Remove the bolts that hold the trunk lock mechanism in place.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the trunk lock mechanism.
6. Remove the trunk lock mechanism from the vehicle.
7. Install the new trunk lock mechanism in reverse order of removal.
8. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
9. Test the trunk lock to make sure it is working properly.
