Why Is My Engine Oil Low?

Why Is My Engine Oil Low?

Do you know anyone that drove a car in the 1970’s? If so, ask them how often they checked their engine oil level. I bet it is quite often. Cars back then used to burn a lot of oil compared to newer vehicles. Newer cars have a much higher mileage and time interval for oil changes. This is creating a lot of issues with burning oil.

Why does this happen?

Going to many miles between oil changes
Defective components inside the engine

Over time the engine oil viscosity breaks down. If your vehicle is rated for a 5,000 mile oil change you may not burn any oil in those 5,000 miles. If you go 8,000 miles you may burn several quarts of oil in those last 3,000 miles. When the engine oil is low it is not lubricating the engine parts. This can cause catastrophic failure, costing thousands of dollars.

If your vehicle burns oil and you are not going over on mileage, it is an internal engine issue. This can be weak piston rings or other issues. No matter what it is the fix is quite expensive. Therefore, we recommend trying less invasive measures. Our engine restoration service along with a couple additives may be able to help you. I say may because without internal engine part replacement it is just trying to put a band aid on the issue.
