1. Before you begin, let the engine cool down.

2. Relieve the pressure in the cooling system by removing the radiator cap.

3. Remove:

* The air filter cover.

* The air filter.

* The battery and battery tray.

* The power steering reservoir.

* The throttle cable bracket.

* The fuel injector harness clips.

* The exhaust manifold heat shields.

* The spark plugs.

* The ignition wires.

* The distributor cap.

* The distributor rotor.

4. Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the reverse order of the tightening sequence (refer to your vehicle’s service manual for the specific tightening sequence).

5. Remove the cylinder head bolts.

6. Carefully lift the cylinder head off the engine block.

7. Clean the cylinder head and engine block mating surfaces with a gasket scraper and engine degreaser.

8. Apply a thin bead of RTV sealant to the gasket surfaces of the cylinder head and engine block.

9. Carefully place the new head gasket on the engine block.

10. Install the cylinder head bolts in the correct sequence and tighten them to the specified torque (refer to your vehicle’s service manual for the specific torque specifications).

11. Reinstall all the parts you removed in reverse order.

12. Refill the cooling system.

13. Start the engine and let it run until the thermostat opens.

14. Check for leaks and make sure the engine is running smoothly.
