How do you remove front rotors on a Jeep Cherokee sport?

Tools and materials needed:

- Jack and jack stands, Chock, Lug wrench, Breaker bar, 18 mm socket, Flathead screwdriver, Wire brush, Brake cleaner

Procedure

Step 1 - Prepare your vehicle

Park your Jeep Cherokee Sport on a level surface and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake and chock the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them completely.

Step 2 - Raise the vehicle

Use a jack to raise the front of the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground. Place jack stands under the vehicle frame for additional support.

Step 3 - Remove the lug nuts and wheel

Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the front wheel.

Step 4 - Remove the caliper bracket bolts

Locate the two caliper bracket bolts on the back of the caliper. Use the 18 mm socket and breaker bar to loosen and remove these bolts.

Step 5 - Remove the caliper

Gently lift the caliper off the rotor, taking care not to damage the brake hose. Hang the caliper from the suspension with a piece of wire or bungee cord.

Step 6 - Remove the rotor

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the dust cap off the center of the rotor. Remove the cotter pin and washer from the spindle. Slide the rotor off the hub.

Step 7 - Clean the rotor hub and mating surfaces

Use a wire brush to clean the rotor hub and the mating surfaces on the caliper and bracket. Remove any rust or debris.

Step 8 - Apply brake cleaner

Spray brake cleaner onto the rotor hub and the mating surfaces to remove any remaining dirt or grease.

Step 9 - Install the new rotor

Slide the new rotor onto the hub. Make sure that the rotor is seated properly and the lug nut holes line up with the holes in the hub.

Step 10 - Install the washer and cotter pin

Place the washer and cotter pin on the spindle and secure it with a hammer.

Step 11 - Reinstall the caliper

Reinstall the caliper over the rotor. Make sure that the caliper is seated properly and the brake pads are aligned with the rotor.

Step 12 - Install the caliper bracket bolts

Reinstall the two caliper bracket bolts and tighten them with the 18 mm socket.

Step 13 - Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts

Place the wheel on the hub and reinstall the lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until snug.

Step 14 - Lower the vehicle

Slowly lower the vehicle using the jack until it is back on the ground. Remove the jack stands.

Step 15 - Test the brakes

Before driving, test the brakes to make sure they are working properly. Pump the brake pedal several times and check for any unusual sounds or vibrations.

Tips:

- If the rotor is stuck on the hub, tap the rotor with a hammer to break it loose.

- Be careful not to damage the brake hose when removing the caliper.

- Make sure that the new rotor is the same size and thickness as the original rotor.

- Replace the brake pads if they are worn out or damaged.
