How do you replace a starter on 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0?

Replacing the starter on a 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 is a relatively straightforward task that can be completed in about an hour. Here are the steps involved:

1. Disconnect the battery

- Use a wrench to loosen the negative battery cable nut, and remove the cable from the battery terminal.

2. Remove the starter wiring

- Disconnect the solenoid wire and starter relay wire from the starter solenoid.

- Follow the positive battery cable from the battery going down to the starter and remove it with a wrench.

- Unscrew and remove the positive battery cable and solenoid wire from the starter.

3. Remove the starter bolts

- There will be two bolts holding the starter in place, usually with a 13 mm bolt head. Use a ratchet and socket wrench to loosen and remove these bolts.

4. Remove the starter

- Once the bolts are removed, you can remove the starter by gently prying it out of its mounting bracket.

5. Install the new starter

- Position the new starter in place, and insert the two mounting bolts. Hand tighten the bolts before using the ratchet and socket to fully tighten them.

- Connect the positive battery cable and solenoid wire back to the starter solenoid.

- Finally, replace the negative battery cable to the battery terminal and tighten the nut using the wrench.

6. Test the starter

- Connect the battery, turn the key in the ignition, and start the engine to test the new starter.

7. Reinstall the air intake

- Once you have verified that the new starter is working correctly, you can reinstall the air intake.

8. Reconnect the battery

- Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal.
