- Gather your tools and materials. You will need:
* A screwdriver or other tool to pry open the plastic panel around the ignition switch.
* A bypass module specifically designed for the 2004 Jeep Cherokee.
* A wire stripper/crimper.
* Electrical tape.
- Locate the transponder coil. It is usually located around the ignition switch.
- Pry open the plastic panel around the ignition switch.
- Locate the wires connected to the transponder coil. They are usually white and black.
- Cut the white and black wires to the transponder coil.
- Strip the ends of the white and black wires.
- Connect the bypass module to the white and black wires. The bypass module will usually have instructions on how to do this.
- Wrap the connections with electrical tape to secure them.
- Put the plastic panel back in place.
- Start the engine. The bypass module should allow the engine to start without the need for a key or transponder.
