1. Purchase the correct ATF for your vehicle. Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended type and amount of ATF.
2. Park your vehicle on a level surface and ensure the engine is cool.
3. Engage the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
4. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. In the 1992 BMW 325i, it is usually found in the engine bay, near the back of the engine. It is marked with a bright colored handle (usually red or yellow).
5. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth. Reinsert the dipstick fully and then pull it out again to check the fluid level.
