1996 Mitsubishi Mirage 1.5L Valve Adjustment

1. Park the vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the vehicle to cool down completely.

2. Open the hood and remove the engine cover.

3. Locate the valve cover. It is located at the top of the cylinder head.

4. Remove the valve cover bolts and remove the valve cover.

5. Locate the camshaft. It is located at the top of the cylinder head, inside the valve cover.

6. Turn the crankshaft until the timing mark on the flywheel is aligned with the pointer on the engine block. This will place the camshaft in the correct position for adjustment.

7. Use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm. The clearance should be 0.008-0.012 inches.

8. If the clearance is not within specifications, use a wrench to adjust the locknut on the rocker arm. Adjusting the locknut will change the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for all of the valves.

10. Replace the valve cover and the valve cover bolts.

11. Start the engine and check the oil pressure. The oil pressure should be between 30 and 60 psi.

12. Replace the engine cover and close the hood.
