How do you change a wiper transmission in 1993 Camry?

Tools

* Phillips and standard screwdriver sets

* 10 mm socket and wrench

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the wiper arms from the pivot shafts.

3. Loosen the upper and lower wiper transmission mounting nuts and bolts enough so that the transmission can be pried loose from the firewall. Disconnect the transmission linkage rods from the transmission at this time.

4. Remove the two 10 mm nuts attaching the motor to the firewall and remove the motor.

5. Remove the wiper transmission, being careful not to drop it.

6. Remove and discard the old gasket from the firewall. Clean gasket surfaces.

7. Install a new gasket on the new transmission.

8. Place a bead of windshield sealer on the bottom edge of the gasket to prevent water leaks.

9. Install the transmission loosely to the firewall with the two 10 mm bolts and nuts.

10. Attach the linkage rods to the transmission.

11. Place the motor on the firewall and loosely install the two 10 mm bolts and nuts.

12. Verify the transmission and wiper arms can be moved freely before fully tightening all nuts and bolts.

13. Reconnect the battery.

14. Turn on the ignition switch to test the wipers and ensure that they travel completely through their arcs without binding.

Tips:

- Be sure to disconnect the battery before starting this repair to prevent accidental injury or damage to the vehicle's electrical system.

- If the wiper transmission is not properly seated against the firewall, it can cause the wipers to bind or skip.

- If the transmission linkage rods are not properly connected, the wipers will not move properly or may fall off.

- Take your time and be careful when performing this repair to ensure that the wiper transmission is installed correctly.
