1. Disconnect the battery.
* Locate the negative battery terminal on the driver's side of the engine bay.
* Loosen the nut that holds the negative battery cable to the terminal using a wrench.
* Remove the negative battery cable from the terminal.
* Store the negative battery cable in a safe place.
2. Remove the drive belt.
* Locate the drive belt tensioner on the front of the engine.
* Insert a 3/8-inch drive ratchet into the tensioner and turn it clockwise to loosen the belt tension.
* Remove the drive belt from the alternator and the other pulleys.
* Store the drive belt in a safe place.
3. Remove the alternator bracket.
* Locate the alternator bracket on the front of the engine.
* Remove the two nuts that hold the alternator bracket to the engine block using a wrench.
* Store the alternator bracket and the nuts in a safe place.
4. Remove the alternator.
* Locate the alternator on the front of the engine.
* Remove the two bolts that hold the alternator to the engine block using a wrench.
* Remove the alternator from the engine bay.
* Store the alternator in a safe place.
5. Install the new alternator.
* Place the new alternator in the engine bay.
* Insert the two bolts that hold the alternator to the engine block and tighten them using a wrench.
* Install the alternator bracket and tighten the two nuts using a wrench.
6. Install the drive belt.
* Place the drive belt around the alternator and the other pulleys.
* Insert a 3/8-inch drive ratchet into the tensioner and turn it counterclockwise to tighten the belt tension.
7. Connect the battery.
* Reconnect the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal.
* Tighten the nut that holds the negative battery cable to the terminal using a wrench.
8. Test the alternator.
* Start the engine.
* Turn on the headlights and the air conditioner.
* Check the voltage at the battery terminals using a voltmeter. The voltage should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts.
