Brake light stays on. How do you check brake switch on 2003 Nissan Xterra?

To check the brake switch on your 2003 Nissan Xterra, follow these steps:

1. Park your vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine.

2. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the brake fluid reservoir. It is usually a translucent plastic container located near the firewall on the driver's side.

3. Inspect the brake fluid reservoir for leaks or cracks. If you see any leaks, you will need to replace the brake fluid reservoir before proceeding.

4. Remove the electrical connector from the brake pressure switch. The brake pressure switch is located on the brake master cylinder, which is the metal cylinder attached to the brake fluid reservoir.

5. Use a multimeter to test the brake pressure switch. Set the multimeter to measure resistance.

6. Connect one probe of the multimeter to the brake fluid reservoir and the other probe to the terminal of the brake pressure switch.

7. If the multimeter reads zero ohms, the brake pressure switch is working properly. If the multimeter reads infinite ohms, the brake pressure switch is faulty and needs to be replaced.

8. If the brake pressure switch is faulty, you can remove the brake pressure switch and replace it with a new one. When installing the new brake pressure switch, make sure to tighten it securely.
