- Replacement distributor rotor button
- Socket wrench or screwdriver
- Needle-nose pliers (optional)
Procedure:
1. Locate the distributor cap. It is usually a black or gray plastic cover located at the front of the engine near the top.
2. Remove the distributor cap by turning the retaining screws counterclockwise with the socket wrench or screwdriver.
3. Inside the distributor cap, you will see a small circular piece of plastic or metal with a metal contact at the center. This is the rotor button.
4. Use your fingers or needle-nose pliers to grasp the rotor button and gently pull it straight up to remove it.
5. Inspect the old rotor button for any signs of wear or damage, such as cracks or pitting. Replace it with the new rotor button if necessary.
6. Press the new rotor button down onto the distributor shaft until it snaps into place.
7. Replace the distributor cap by turning the retaining screws clockwise until snug.
8. Start the engine and check that it is running smoothly.
Additional Notes:
- Be careful not to drop the rotor button or any of its components into the distributor.
- If the rotor button is damaged or worn, it can cause the engine to run rough or stall.
- Replacing the rotor button is a relatively simple task that can be completed in just a few minutes.
