Tools Needed:
- Wrench set
- Socket set
- Jack and jack stands
- Pry bar
- New Motor Mounts
- Safety Glasses
Step 1: Safety Precautions:
- Wear safety glasses and appropriate clothing.
- Engage the parking brake and ensure the vehicle is in "PARK"(automatic transmission) or 1st gear(manual transmission).
- Allow the engine to cool down completely.
Step 2: Raise the vehicle:
- Place the jack under a suitable lifting point on the vehicle's frame.
- Jack up the vehicle until it's high enough to comfortably access the motor mounts.
- Secure the vehicle using jack stands.
- Double check that the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
Step 3: Locate the Motor Mounts:
- Identify the motor mounts. There are usually two or three mount locations, depending on the model year.
- Motor mounts are typically located on the front and back of the engine, connecting it to the vehicle's frame or subframe.
Step 4: Loosen the Motor Mount Bolts:
- Use a wrench or socket set to loosen the bolts that secure the motor mount to the engine and/or frame.
Step 5: Support the Engine:
- Use a pry bar to carefully raise the engine slightly, just enough to relieve the tension on the motor mount. Be cautious not to apply too much force, as this could damage other engine components.
Step 6: Remove the Old Motor Mount:
- Once the weight is supported, remove the old motor mount by unscrewing the remaining bolts.
- Carefully take out the old motor mount from the vehicle, paying attention to any alignment marks or orientation features.
Step 7: Install the New Motor Mount:
- Position the new motor mount in its place, ensuring that it aligns correctly with the mounting points.
- Hand-tighten the mounting bolts until they are snug.
Step 8: Lower the Engine:
- Slowly lower the engine until it rests securely on the new motor mount.
Step 9: Tighten the Motor Mount Bolts:
- Use a wrench or socket set to tighten the motor mount bolts securely, following the recommended torque specifications( if available) for your specific vehicle.
Step 10: Lower the Vehicle:
- Carefully lower the vehicle using the jack. Remove the car from the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground.
Step 11: Test Drive:
- Take the vehicle for a short test drive to confirm that the motor mounts are functioning correctly and that there are no unusual vibrations or noises.
