1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running.
2. Locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan, near the front of the engine. It is normally a 17mm bolt. Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.
3. Loosen the oil drain plug. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug. Be careful, as the oil may be hot. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain pan.
4. Replace the oil drain plug. Once all the oil has drained, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
5. Locate the oil filter. It is usually cylindrical-shaped and located near the top of the engine. It is near the back of the engine on a 2003 Civic.
6. Remove the oil filter. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful, as there may be some residual oil in the filter.
7. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
8. Screw on the new oil filter. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug, then tighten it an additional 1/2 turn with the wrench.
9. Remove the oil fill cap. It is usually located on the top of the engine, near the front.
10. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add the recommended amount of new oil to the engine. Refer to the owner's manual for the exact amount.
11. Replace the oil fill cap. Secure tightly.
12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
13. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
That's it! You have successfully changed the oil on your 2003 Honda Civic.
