Tools and materials needed:
- 10mm socket
- 12mm socket
- Wrench
- Flathead screwdriver
- New EGR valve
- Gasket
Instructions:
1. Locate the EGR valve. On the 1994 Honda Accord EX, it is located on the back of the engine, near the top. It is a small, round, silver valve with two vacuum hoses attached to it.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the EGR valve. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the hoses off of the nipples.
3. Unbolt the EGR valve. There are two 10mm bolts holding the EGR valve in place. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts.
4. Remove the EGR valve from the engine. Once the bolts are removed, you can lift the EGR valve off of the engine. Be careful not to drop the gasket that is located between the EGR valve and the engine.
5. Inspect the gasket. The gasket should be in good condition, without any tears or cracks. If the gasket is damaged, replace it with a new one.
6. Install the new EGR valve. Place the new EGR valve in position on the engine and insert the bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts until they are snug.
7. Tighten the bolts. Use a 12mm socket to tighten the bolts. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern, tightening each bolt a little bit at a time until they are snug.
8. Reconnect the vacuum hoses. Connect the vacuum hoses to the nipples on the EGR valve. Push the hoses on until they click into place.
Tips:
- Be careful not to drop any of the bolts or nuts.
- If you are having difficulty removing the EGR valve, you may need to use a penetrating oil to loosen the bolts.
- Make sure that the new EGR valve is properly seated before you tighten the bolts.
