How do you replace distributor on 1991 Camry v6?

Tools and Materials Needed:

Tools

- Socket wrench set

- Ratchet

- Extension bars

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Timing light

Materials

- New distributor

- Distributor cap

- Rotor

- Spark plug wires

- Dielectric grease

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure the electrical system is safely turned off.

2. Remove the distributor cap by pressing down and twisting the cap counterclockwise.

3. Remove any bolts or nuts that secure the distributor to the camshaft.

4. Rotate the engine crankshaft (using the crankshaft bolt or a special tool on the camshaft) until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with "0" on the timing scale/indicator on the engine.

5. Slide the new distributor down into place, ensuring the rotor is aligned with the notch in the distributor body.

6. Reconnect the spark plug wires in the correct firing order.

7. Replace and tighten the distributor cap.

8. Reinstall the negative battery terminal.

Additional Notes:

1. If you are replacing the distributor cap you will need to reinstall the rotor that came with the distributor cap

2. It may be necessary to lubricate the distributor shaft using dielectric grease.

3. Ensure that the distributor cap and rotor are correctly seated and secured to prevent sparking or arcing.

4. Adjust the timing of the distributor by using a timing light to align the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley with "0" on the timing scale.

5. Double-check all the connections carefully before starting the engine.

6. Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises or check for any signs of leaks or improper functioning.
