Disconnect the Battery:
- Before starting any work, disconnect the negative terminal of your car's battery to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
Remove the Airbag Module:
- Turn the steering wheel to ensure it is in a straight position.
- Use a torx screwdriver to remove the retaining screws behind the steering wheel (usually two screws).
- Gently pry open the airbag cover using a plastic trim removal tool. Be cautious not to damage the airbag module or its wiring.
- Disconnect the airbag connector.
- Remove the airbag module by carefully lifting it out of its housing.
- Place the airbag module in a safe location, away from any potential impacts.
Remove the Steering Wheel:
- Locate the steering wheel bolt behind the center of the steering wheel.
- Use the appropriate size wrench or socket to loosen and remove this bolt.
- Once the bolt is removed, gently pull the steering wheel towards you to remove it from the shaft.
Install the New Steering Wheel:
- Align the splines of the new steering wheel with those on the shaft.
- Push the steering wheel onto the splines until it's seated firmly.
- Replace and tighten the steering wheel bolt to the recommended torque specification.
Reinstall the Airbag Module:
- Carefully position the airbag module back into its housing.
- Reconnect the airbag connector.
- Replace the airbag cover and secure it with the previously removed screws.
Reconnecting the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the car's battery.
Test the Steering Wheel:
- Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (without starting the engine) to check if the steering wheel controls are functioning properly.
