1. Prepare the engine.
* Allow the engine to cool down.
* Remove the valve cover.
2. Locate the valve tappets.
* The valve tappets are located on the top of the cylinder head.
* There are two valve tappets for each cylinder, one for the intake valve and one for the exhaust valve.
3. Measure the valve tappet clearance.
* Use a feeler gauge to measure the valve tappet clearance.
* The clearance should be between 0.10 and 0.15 mm for both the intake and exhaust valves.
4. Adjust the valve tappet clearance.
* If the clearance is not within the specified range, use a screwdriver to turn the adjusting screw on the valve tappet.
* Turn the screw clockwise to decrease the clearance and counterclockwise to increase the clearance.
* Recheck the clearance after each adjustment.
5. Reinstall the valve cover.
* Replace the valve cover gasket if it is damaged.
* Tighten the valve cover bolts to the specified torque.
Tips:
* It is important to adjust the valve tappet clearance accurately.
* If the clearance is too tight, the valves will not open fully and the engine will lose power.
* If the clearance is too loose, the valves will not close fully and the engine will make a ticking noise.
* It is recommended to adjust the valve tappet clearance every 6,000 miles or as specified in the maintenance schedule for your vehicle.
