1. Tools Needed:
* Spark Plug Socket
* Ratchet
* Extension
* Gap Gauge (optional)
2. Steps to Change Spark Plugs:
a. Remove Engine Cover:
- Open the hood of the vehicle.
- Locate the engine cover (usually attached with plastic clips).
- Remove the cover by gently pulling it up and unclipping it.
b. Disconnect Ignition Coils:
- Locate the ignition coils on the engine. There should be one ignition coil for each spark plug.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing down on the release tab and pulling them upwards.
c. Remove Spark Plugs:
- Use the spark plug socket and the extension attached to your ratchet to loosen the spark plugs. Turn counterclockwise until they come out.
- Be careful not to drop the spark plugs into the engine.
d. Check Spark Plug Gap (optional):
- Before installing the new spark plugs, inspect and ensure the gap between the electrodes is within the specified range.
- Use a gap gauge to measure the distance between the electrodes. If needed, carefully bend the side electrode to adjust the gap.
e. Install New Spark Plugs:
- Screw in the new spark plugs by hand until they are finger-tight.
- Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to tighten the spark plugs further. Do not overtighten.
f. Reconnect Ignition Coils:
- Reattach the ignition coil connectors to the corresponding spark plugs. Press down firmly until they click into place.
g. Replace Engine Cover:
- Put the engine cover back on and clip it into place.
h. Start the Engine:
- Start the vehicle to check if the spark plugs are functioning properly. Listen for any unusual sounds or check for misfires.
