How to remove timing belt on a Peugeot 306?

Step 1: Prepare the car

Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels. Open the hood and disconnect the battery.

Step 2: Remove the accessory belt

The accessory belt is the belt that drives the power steering pump, alternator, and air conditioner compressor. To remove the accessory belt, loosen the tensioner pulley and slip the belt off of the pulleys.

Step 3: Remove the timing belt cover

The timing belt cover is the plastic cover that encloses the timing belt. To remove the timing belt cover, remove the bolts that hold it in place and lift it off.

Step 4: Set the engine to top dead center

Top dead center (TDC) is the position of the piston when it is at the highest point in its cylinder. To set the engine to TDC, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the timing mark on the pulley aligns with the timing mark on the engine block.

Step 5: Loosen the timing belt tensioner

The timing belt tensioner is the pulley that keeps the timing belt tensioned. To loosen the timing belt tensioner, turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise until the timing belt is slack.

Step 6: Remove the timing belt

Once the timing belt tensioner is loosened, you can remove the timing belt by slipping it off of the pulleys.

Step 7: Install the new timing belt

To install the new timing belt, first make sure that the engine is still set to TDC. Then, slip the new timing belt over the pulleys and tighten the timing belt tensioner.

Step 8: Replace the timing belt cover

Replace the timing belt cover and the bolts that hold it in place.

Step 9: Reconnect the accessory belt

Reconnect the accessory belt by slipping it over the pulleys and tightening the tensioner pulley.

Step 10: Reconnect the battery

Reconnect the battery.

Step 11: Start the engine

Start the engine and check for any leaks or unusual noises.
