- Wrench Set
- Screwdriver
- Replacement Serpentine Belt
Instructions:
.) Open the hood of your Jeep Wrangler.
.) Start by removing the negative battery cable. This is usually black and marked with a "-" sign. Use the wrench to loosen the nut and remove the cable.
.) Detach the top hose of the radiator by squeezing its clamps with pliers and pulling it off the radiator.
.) Move to the lower radiator hose. Squeeze its clamp as well to remove it from the radiator.
.) Drain the coolant from the engine by opening the drain valve located on the bottom of the radiator.
.) Remove the air filter box by releasing its latches and lifting it out.
.) Locate the tensioner assembly in the engine bay. It is an adjustable arm that holds the serpentine belt in tension.
.) You'll need to loosen the tensioner assembly to be able to remove the serpentine belt. Use a wrench or a deep-socketed wrench to loosen the tensioner assembly by turning the tensioner in a counterclockwise direction. As you turn it counterclockwise, the tension will decrease.
.) Once the tension is released, remove the old serpentine belt from the pulley.
.) Route the new serpentine belt around the various pulleys in the engine, following the routing diagram that is usually found on a sticker in the engine bay or in the owner's manual.
.) Make sure that the belt is properly seated in all the pulleys.
.) Tighten the tensioner assembly to provide tension to the belt. Turn it in a clockwise direction.
.) Check the tension of the belt by pressing on it with your thumb. The belt should move approximately half an inch when pressed upon.
.) Reattach the air filter box.
.) Fill the radiator with coolant and replace the top and bottom hoses.
.) Reconnect the negative battery cable.
.) Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check that the serpentine belt is working correctly. Make sure there is no vibration and the belt is properly aligned with all the pulleys.
