- New brake shoes
Instructions:
1. Park the truck on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, but do not remove them.
3. Raise the truck with the floor jack and place jack stands under the frame for support.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.
5. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the brake drum.
6. Inspect the brake shoes for wear. If they are worn down to 1/8 inch or less, they need to be replaced.
7. Remove the old brake shoes by removing the springs and clips that hold them in place.
8. Clean the brake drums with brake cleaner and inspect them for damage. If they are damaged, they will need to be replaced.
9. Install the new brake shoes by reversing the steps you took to remove the old shoes.
10. Adjust the brake shoes so that they are snug against the brake drums.
11. Reinstall the brake drums.
12. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts and lower the truck.
13. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the new shoes.
14. Test the brakes by driving the truck and making sure that they stop properly.
15. Top up the brake fluid if necessary.
