What should you do if accidentally added radiator fluid to the windshield washer reservoir?

Step 1: Safely stop your vehicle.

Find a safe place to pull over as soon as possible. Turn off the engine and set the parking brake.

Step 2: Open the hood of your vehicle.

Once you are safely stopped, open the hood of your vehicle. Be careful not to touch any hot engine parts.

Step 3: Locate the windshield washer reservoir.

The windshield washer reservoir is typically a translucent plastic container located near the front of the engine compartment. It is usually marked with a "washer fluid" or "windshield washer" label.

Step 4: Disconnect the windshield washer hose from the reservoir.

Using a wrench or pliers, carefully loosen and remove the clamp that secures the windshield washer hose to the reservoir. Pull the hose off of the reservoir.

Step 5: Drain the windshield washer reservoir.

Allow the radiator fluid to drain completely out of the reservoir. Be sure to catch all of the fluid in a container. Do not let the fluid spill onto the ground, as it can be harmful to the environment.

Step 6: Rinse the windshield washer reservoir.

Once the reservoir is empty, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Use a mild dish soap or a mixture of water and baking soda to help clean the reservoir and help remove any leftover fluid.

Step 7: Reattach the windshield washer hose.

Once the reservoir is clean, reattach the windshield washer hose to the reservoir and tighten the clamp. Recheck all the hose connections to ensure there are no leaks.

Step 8: Refill the windshield washer reservoir with the appropriate fluid.

Fill the reservoir with the appropriate windshield washer fluid. Be sure to use a fluid that is specifically designed for your vehicle.

Step 9: Test the windshield washers.

Start your vehicle and turn on the windshield washers. Test the washers to make sure they are working properly.

Note: Do not drive your vehicle until the radiator fluid has been completely removed from the windshield washer reservoir and replaced with the appropriate fluid. If the radiator fluid is left in the reservoir, it can damage the windshield wiper blades and other components of the windshield washer system.
