The Benefits of a Synthetic Oil Change

The Benefits of a Synthetic Oil Change

Most people by now realize that synthetic motor oil is better than conventional oil. But why is synthetic better? Conventional oil and synthetic oil both start out as crude oil extracted from the ground; but there are few similarities after that.

Synthetic oil is refined, as is conventional oil. But synthetic motor oil is also purified and distilled. Then it’s reduced to its basic molecule form. The whole process is designed to remove more impurities and involves molecule modifications so the synthetic oil is specifically tailored to meet the demands of today’s higher performance and more efficient engines. The modified molecules in synthetic motor oil provide much better performance and more protection than conventional motor oils. But there’s more. There are custom designed additives that go in to create the exact type and viscosity synthetic oil for each engine and each vehicle.

Each of the synthetic oils we use here at Budget Auto Repair is uniquely formulated to protect your engine and keep it running like new.

So what are the specific benefits of full synthetic motor oil? The common benefits are:

  • Better wear protection, when compared to conventional oils
  • A cleaner running engine
  • Better protection in high temperatures, and
  • Better flow in cold temperatures

Better Wear Protection
The internal parts of your engine are constantly moving at high speeds and are in constant contact with one another. In this extreme internal engine environment, the motor oil is the only protective layer between the internal engine components. Conventional motor oils tend to break down faster, losing their ability to prevent engine wear. On the other hand, synthetic motor oils will maintain their wear protection properties for much longer, thereby increasing the life of your engine.

A Cleaner Running Engine
When the motor oil is circulating in the engine, it’s picking up impurities. In time, conventional oils are known to sometimes form sludge. This sludge will reduce the engine’s efficiency and will, eventually, reduce the life of your engine. Full synthetic motor oils resist the formation of sludge much better because the synthetic oils contain fewer natural impurities than conventional oils. All this prevents harmful sludge from building up inside your engine.

Better Protection In High Temperatures
The high temperatures inside your engine will cause conventional motor oils to break down over time. Full synthetic motor oils are specifically designed to resist high temperatures. This resistance to high temperatures is beneficial in all climates but really comes into play in hotter areas of the country.

Better Flow in Cold Temperatures
When your car has been parked for some time or overnight, the motor oil settles mostly in the oil pan. When you start the engine, oil begins to flow through critical engine components. Conventional motor oils take much longer to flow smoothly through the engine when cold. Full synthetic motor oils, on the other hand, are designed to flow quickly even in cold temperatures. This quicker oil flow allows the oil to start protecting your engine almost immediately after start up.

Here’s the best news of all… Even though synthetic motor oil is typically around twice the price of conventional oil, in most instances, you are able to travel twice the distance between oil changes. That’s significant because you end up paying almost the same for synthetic, by changing your oil half as often, all with the added convenience of coming in for an oil change half as many times per year.

Here at Budget Auto Repair & Transmission, we carry a full line of synthetic motor oils, including Mobil1 and Valvoline. We have the right synthetic oil for your car. Click here to schedule your oil change appointment.
