How to Replace the Power Steering Belt on a 2000 Mazda 626

---

Tools and materials needed:

- Wrench set

- Socket set

- Power steering belt

- Automotive Jack and jack stands

Procedure:

1. Park your car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Locate the power steering pump. The power steering pump is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.

3. Loosen the power steering pump bolts. There are usually three bolts that hold the power steering pump in place. Use a wrench to loosen these bolts, but do not remove them completely.

4. Slide the old power steering belt off. You may need to use a pry bar to help pry the belt off of the pulleys.

5. Install the new power steering belt. Start by slipping the belt around the power steering pump pulley. Then, work the belt around the other pulleys.

6. Tighten the power steering pump bolts. Once the belt is in place, tighten the power steering pump bolts.

7. Check the power steering fluid level. With the engine running, top off the power steering fluid reservoir if necessary and let the engine idle while watching the fluid level. The fluid level should not drop after topping it off.

Tips:

- If the power steering belt is excessively loose or tight, it will cause the power steering pump to squeal.

- If the power steering belt is slipping, it can cause the power steering to become inoperative.

- It is important to check the power steering fluid level regularly and top it off as needed.
