How do you replace the water pump in a 1995 Chevy k1500?

How to Replace the Water Pump in a 1995 Chevy K1500

1. Park your truck in a level spot and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before you begin working on it.

2. Engage the parking brake. Loosen the lug nuts on the front driver's side wheel, but do not remove them. Jack up the front of the truck until the tire is off the ground, then remove the lug nuts and wheel.

3. Remove the serpentine belt. To do this, insert a 1/2-inch breaker bar into the square hole in the tensioner pulley and turn it counterclockwise until the tension is released. Slip the belt off the pulleys.

4. Drain the coolant. Place a large drain pan under the water pump. Loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and let the coolant drain until it stops.

5. Remove the water pump bolts. There are three bolts that hold the water pump in place. They are located at the top, bottom, and front of the pump. Use a 3/8-inch wrench to loosen the bolts and remove them.

6. Remove the old water pump. Gently remove the water pump from the engine block. Be careful not to drop it, as it is made of cast iron and can break easily.

7. Install the new water pump. Place the new water pump on the engine block and install the bolts. Do not tighten the bolts yet.

8. Refill the coolant system. Pour coolant into the radiator until the level reaches the "Full" mark.

Replace the serpentine belt. Slip the belt onto the pulleys and reinstall the tensioner pulley. Tighten the lug nuts on the front driver's side wheel. Lower the truck using a jack.
