How do you adjust valve clearance on 99 Nissan Micra?

How to Adjust Valve Clearance on a 99 Nissan Micra

1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before beginning work.

2. Open the hood of your car.

3. Locate the valve cover. It is usually located at the top of the engine, and is held in place by a few bolts.

4. Remove the valve cover bolts and remove the valve cover. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine.

5. Inspect the valve clearance. The valve clearance is the gap between the valve stem and the rocker arm. The clearance should be between 0.008 and 0.012 inches. If the clearance is too large, the valves will not open or close properly, and the engine will not run properly. If the clearance is too small, the valves will not open or close fully, and the engine will also not run properly.

6. Adjust the valve clearance if necessary. To adjust the valve clearance, loosen the locknut on the rocker arm and turn the adjusting screw until the desired clearance is achieved. Tighten the locknut once the desired clearance has been achieved.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each of the valves.

8. Replace the valve cover and the valve cover bolts.

9. Start the engine and check for proper operation. The engine should run smoothly and quietly with no knocking or ticking noises.

Note: If you are not comfortable performing this procedure yourself, you can take your car to a qualified mechanic to have the valve clearance adjusted.
