Need to Know What are the Signs of a Bad Axle?

Many drivers don’t often think too much about the condition of their car’s suspension system until all of a sudden they are bouncing around over bumps and potholes. This makes for hazardous driving conditions as the condition of your car axles and shocks not only impact the steering, driving, and braking of your vehicle but also affect the transmittal of power from the engine to the wheels. Head to your auto shop as soon as possible and ask about CV joint repair issues.

Car axles are designed to last a long time, some for the entire life of the car, and carry the entire weight of the vehicle, plus passengers and cargo. While most axles can last well over 100,000 miles unless they’re damaged in some way, they are subjected to a lot of stress from constantly rotating and flexing to accommodate road conditions.

So just what are the signs of a bad axle, you ask? Here are some very obvious problems you will notice if your axles are bad:

  • Loud sounds: Clicking sounds would be heard most often during sharp turns at lower speeds. Clunking sounds may be heard when accelerating or slowing down. Growling noises can be caused by a lack of lubrication.
  • Leaking grease: You may see grease on the inside of the tire, steering and suspension components, or even on the ground, coming from a torn or cracked CV boot. Find a qualified mechanic for an urgent CV joint repair immediately.
  • Vibration: A bent axle shaft will cause vibrations while driving and will become more obvious as your speed increases. This vibration has an impact on the handling of your vehicle, as well as the overall safety and comfort.

Remember: The condition of your car axles is important as they transfer the power from the drivetrain to the wheels in order for your vehicle to move. Give them the attention they deserve with quality CV joint repair!
