Procedure:
Step 1: Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
Step 2: Slide an oil drain pan under the vehicle, directly beneath the oil pan.
Step 3: Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan and remove it using a suitable wrench.
Step 4: Allow the oil to completely drain into the pan. This may take several minutes.
Note: While the oil is draining, it is a good time to inspect the old oil for any signs of metal shavings or other debris. If you find any, this could indicate a problem with your engine and you should have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
Step 5: Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
Step 6: Locate the oil filter on the top of the engine. It is usually cylindrical in shape and black or gray in color.
Step 7: Place an oil drain pan beneath the oil filter.
Step 8: Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter and remove it.
Step 9: Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter before screwing it into place by hand.
Step 10: Tighten the oil filter by turning it about 1/4 to 1/2 turn past snug by hand.
Step 11: Refill the engine with new oil using a funnel.
Step 12: Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
Step 13: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
Step 14: Check for any oil leaks and listen for any unusual noises.
Tips:
- If the oil pan is stuck, you may need to use a rubber mallet to loosen it.
- Be careful not to overtighten the oil drain plug or oil filter, as this can damage the threads.
- Dispose of the old oil and oil filter in a responsible manner.
