How do you change an alternator belt on a 2001 Honda Civic?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Replacement alternator belt

- Socket set

- Wrench set

- Pliers

- Gloves

Instructions:

1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.

Engage the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down completely if it has been running.

2. Open the hood of your car.

Locate the hood release lever inside your vehicle and pull it to release the hood. Then, lift the hood and prop it open with the support rod.

3. Locate the alternator belt.

The alternator belt is located on the front of the engine. It is a long, thin belt that runs between the alternator and the crankshaft pulley.

4. Loosen the alternator belt tensioner.

The alternator belt tensioner is a metal bracket that holds the alternator belt in place. To loosen the tensioner, use a wrench to turn the tensioner pulley bolt counterclockwise.

5. Remove the alternator belt.

Once the tensioner is loose, you can remove the alternator belt by slipping it off the pulleys.

6. Install the new alternator belt.

To install the new alternator belt, simply reverse the steps you took to remove the old belt. Make sure that the new belt is properly routed around the pulleys.

7. Tighten the alternator belt tensioner.

Once the new belt is in place, tighten the alternator belt tensioner by turning the tensioner pulley bolt clockwise.

8. Check the alternator belt tension.

Use a wrench to turn the alternator belt tensioner pulley clockwise until the belt has about 1/2 inch of play.

9. Close the hood of your car.

Once you are finished, close the hood of your car and lower the support rod.
