How do you replace the headlights on a 1996 VW Golf?

Replacing the headlights on a 1996 VW Golf is a relatively simple task that can be completed in under an hour. Here are the steps involved:

1. Gather the necessary tools.

You will need the following tools to complete this task:

- Phillips screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Socket wrench

- 10mm socket

- T25 Torx bit

- New headlight bulbs

2. Prepare your vehicle.

Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely. Engage the parking brake and turn on the hazard lights.

3. Open the hood.

Pull the hood release lever located inside the driver's footwell. Go to the front of the vehicle and lift the hood. Prop the hood open with the support rod.

4. Locate the headlight assemblies.

The headlight assemblies are located at the front of the vehicle, on either side of the grille.

5. Remove the headlight bolts.

Use the 10mm socket to remove the two bolts that secure each headlight assembly in place.

6. Remove the headlight assembly.

Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the headlight assembly straight out of the vehicle.

7. Disconnect the electrical connector.

There is an electrical connector on the back of each headlight assembly. Use the flathead screwdriver to pry the connector loose.

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws that secure the headlight bulb in place. Once the screws are removed, you can pull the old headlight bulb straight out of the assembly.

9. Install the new headlight bulb.

Insert the new headlight bulb into the assembly and secure it with the three screws.

10. Reconnect the electrical connector.

Plug the electrical connector back into the headlight assembly.

11. Reinstall the headlight assembly.

Insert the headlight assembly into the vehicle and secure it with the two bolts.

12. Repeat steps 4-11 for the other headlight assembly.

13. Close the hood.

Once you are finished replacing the headlight bulbs, close the hood and latch it securely.
