Tools Needed:
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- 10mm socket wrench
- Extension bar
- New rear wiper assembly
Step 1: Remove the Wiper Arm
- Locate the wiper arm on the rear of the vehicle.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the small cover at the base of the wiper arm.
- Once the cover is removed, use a 10mm socket wrench with an extension bar to loosen and remove the nut holding the wiper arm in place.
- Gently lift and remove the wiper arm from the threaded splined shaft.
Step 2: Disconnect the Electrical Connection
- Underneath the wiper arm, you'll find the electrical connection for the rear wiper motor.
- Gently push down on the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it apart to disconnect it.
Step 3: Remove the Wiper Assembly
- Locate the three Phillips-head screws holding the wiper assembly in place.
- Remove the three screws.
Step 4: Remove the Wiper Motor Assembly
- Locate the wiper motor unit directly below the wiper assembly.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor by pushing down on the release tab.
- Remove the three bolts securing the wiper motor assembly from the vehicle using your socket wrench.
- Pull the wiper motor assembly out from the body of the vehicle.
Step 5: Install the New Wiper Assembly
- Transfer the electrical connections from the old wiper motor assembly to the new one.
- Place the new wiper assembly in its proper position and secure it using the three bolts you removed earlier.
- Attach the electrical connection to the wiper motor.
Step 6: Reinstall the Wiper Arm
- Place the wiper arm back onto the threaded splined shaft.
- Thread the nut back on and tighten it with the 10mm socket wrench and extension bar.
- Snap the small cover back into place to hide the nut.
Step 7: Test the Wiper
- Turn on the rear wiper switch to ensure the new assembly is functioning correctly.
The rear wiper assembly on your Audi A6 Avant should now be successfully replaced.
