How do you replace the fan clutch in a 2004 vw passat?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Replacement Fan Clutch

- 36 mm Fan Clutch Wrench

- Breaker Bar

- 10 mm Socket Wrench

- Flat Head Screwdriver

- Safety Glasses

Instructions:

1. Park your car in a safe location and allow the engine to cool down completely.

2. Locate the fan clutch on the front of the engine. It is a large, cylindrical-shaped component that is attached to the water pump.

3. Use the 10 mm socket wrench to remove the two bolts that secure the fan shroud to the car.

4. Remove the fan shroud by lifting it up and off of the engine.

5. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry the fan clutch retaining clip off of the fan clutch housing.

6. Use the 36 mm fan clutch wrench to turn the fan clutch counterclockwise until it is loose.

7. Remove the fan clutch from the water pump.

8. Install the new fan clutch by screwing it onto the water pump.

9. Tighten the fan clutch retaining clip.

10. Reinstall the fan shroud.

11. Reinstall the two bolts that secure the fan shroud to the car.

12. Start the car and check the operation of the fan clutch.
