1. Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the car's OBDII port. This port is usually located under the dashboard, near the driver's side footwell.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Use the scan tool to read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that are stored in the car's computer.
4. Once you have read the DTCs, you can clear them from the computer.
5. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the scan tool.
6. Start the engine. The check engine light should now be reset.
If the check engine light comes back on after you have reset it, it means that there is still a problem with the car that needs to be fixed. You should take the car to a qualified mechanic to have it diagnosed and repaired.
