Step 2: Start your dirt bike. Using the controls on the handlebar, start your bike.
Step 3: Let out the clutch lever slowly. As you let out the clutch, apply pressure to the throttle with your right hand. This will cause the bike to start moving.
Step 4: Shift up through the gears as you accelerate. As you're riding along, the engine will start to sound like it's about to run out of power. This is when you need to shift into the next gear. To shift up, pull in the clutch lever and lift up on the gearshift lever with your left foot until it clicks into place. You're now in the next gear.
Step 5: Shift down through the gears as you decelerate. As you're slowing down, the engine will start to sound like it's lugging. This is when you need to shift into a lower gear. To shift down, pull in the clutch lever and push down on the gearshift lever with your left foot until it clicks into place. You're now in a lower gear.
Step 6: Stay in gear when you're coming to a stop. As you're coming to a stop, keep the bike in gear until the engine comes to a complete stop.
Here are a few tips for shifting gears on a dirt bike:
- Don't shift gears too quickly. This can put unnecessary wear and tear on the transmission.
- Make sure that you're fully in gear before letting out the clutch lever. Otherwise, the bike may lurch forward or backward.
- Practice shifting gears in a safe area before heading out on the trails. This way, you can get a feel for how the shifting works and how to shift smoothly.
