1. Remove the carburetor and air filter housing.
2. Locate the stator plate and remove the bolts holding it in place.
3. Once the stator plate is removed, you will see the flywheel and the ignition coil.
4. Loosen the bolts that hold the ignition coil in place but don't remove them completely.
5. Rotate the ignition coil counterclockwise (advances timing) or clockwise (retards) until the desired timing is achieved.
6. Tighten the bolts holding the ignition coil.
7. Replace the stator plate and bolts, and reinstall the carburetor and air filter housing.
NOTE: Advancing the timing too much can cause engine damage or knocking, so it is important to find the correct setting. Consult your scooter's service manual or an expert to determine the correct timing for your scooter.
